"What if we got History all wrong?"
"What if we got History all wrong?"
An estimated 70,000 people gathered in Fatima Portugal expecting to see a miracle after three shepherd children; Lucia and her two siblings reported 2 previous visions at this same location from an apparition calling herself ‘the lady of the rosary’.
In his book “Looking for a Miracle,” Joe Nickell states that the huge crowd was “anticipating the Virgin’s final visit and with many fully expecting that she would work a great miracle. As before, the figure appeared, and again only to the children. Identifying herself as ‘the Lady of the Rosary,’ she urged repentance and the building of a chapel at the site. After predicting an end to [World War I] and giving the children certain undisclosed visions, the lady lifted her hands to the sky. Thereupon Lucia exclaimed, ‘The sun!’ As everyone gazed upward, and saw that a silvery disc had emerged from behind clouds, they experienced what is known [as] a ‘sun miracle’.”
Some in attendance said they saw the sun dance around the heavens; others said the sun zoomed toward the Earth in a zigzag motion that caused them to fear that it might collide with our planet or burn it up. Some people reported seeing brilliant colors spin out of the sun in a psychedelic pinwheel pattern. But thousands said they saw nothing at all.
Lucia was the only one of the children who saw the prophecies that became know as the ‘Three Visions of Fatima’.
Shortly after the Miracle of Fatima event, two of the children died of the Spanish flu. Lucia became a nun and was kept as a virtual prisoner until her death in February 13, 2005 at age 97.
In October 1943 Lucia fell ill with influenza and pleurisy, the same illness which had killed her cousins, and for a time believed she was about to die. Bishop Da Silva then ordered her to put the third secret in writing. Sister Lucia was ordered by the Vatican not to reveal the Third Secret.
We have learned later, that when Pope John XXIII opened the third secret in 1960 and read it, he gasped and fainted. The secret was immediately returned to the Vatican vault. When he awoke he ordered Sister Lucia’s letter to be sealed away in a vault “for all time”.
Pope Paul, after succeeding Pope John XXIII similarly read and returned the secret to seclusion. The next Pope lived only 30 days. There is no indication he ever saw the document. Good News Christian Ministry
Finally, in June of 2000, the Vatican — at a press conference where hundreds of journalists from around the world were present — revealed what it claimed was the Third Secret, along with other documents, including a lengthy commentary. Sister Lucia was not allowed to attend. The Fatima Society wrote an article: Silencing of Sister Lucia, in which they outline why they believe the 3rd Secret announced by Pop John Paul II in 2000 is a fake.
